Insight in procedures, processes and systemsEurostat has a rather complicated IT architecture due to the systematic addition of different IT systems. Because of the company’s experience in IT documentation services Quint Wellington Redwood was asked to improve the documentation of the Eurostat IT infrastructure in creating more transparency on the different IT tools. More precisely this concerned the two most important IT components within the data production lifecycle: the procedures and processes related to the reference database and the internet portal.
In first instance Quint Wellington Redwood conducted in depth interviews with the ten internal involved IT system owners. Because of this, the company improved the insight in the tasks and functions of the different IT applications, used for the production and dissemination of data and metadata. As a result of the service contract, all information collected was processed into a Wiki, in which the respective processes and procedures were properly documented and where they can be updated and maintained. Quint Wellington Redwood documented the technical complex IT infrastructure with a detailed description of every level of the IT infrastructure.
August Götzfried, Head of the unit responsible for reference databases and metadata : “Quint Wellington Redwood got a good insight in the underlying IT processes and procedures. Through its thorough approach, Quint Wellington Redwood added value in better documenting our complicated IT architecture. .”
